As the counting of votes for the 2024 Haryana assembly elections progresses, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a surprising turnaround. Initially, the Congress party appeared to be gaining momentum, but the tide shifted dramatically as counting continued.

Congress’s Early Lead and Subsequent Turnaround

During the early counting rounds on Tuesday, Congress surged ahead of the BJP, prompting party workers to celebrate with sweets and firecrackers in both Delhi and Haryana. However, around 10 am, the BJP began to reclaim its position and eventually established a strong lead.

Current Status of the Vote Count

By 11:30 am on October 8, the BJP was leading in 49 seats, surpassing the majority threshold in the 90-member assembly, while Congress was ahead in 35 seats. Although the results are still being finalized, the BJP is looking to secure a third consecutive term in Haryana.

Supriya Shrinate’s Viral Remarks

Amid the election results, a statement made by Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate has gone viral. In a recent debate on News 24, she confidently declared that she would change her name if the BJP managed to win more than 20 seats in the assembly.

“If the BJP is able to go past 20 seats, I am ready to change my name. 15-20 is what the BJP will get, maybe lesser but not more,” she stated.

Shrinate made similar comments during an appearance on ABP News, where she remarked that if the BJP “could muster even 20 seats, I would consider it a good performance.” Her bold assertions even caught the attention of the TV anchor.

Exit Poll Predictions and Congress’s Confidence

Most exit polls had suggested a Congress victory following the elections held on October 5. However, Shrinate maintained that the Congress party would secure even more seats than projected. “We will win many more seats in Haryana than the exit polls indicate. We will also form a government in Jammu and Kashmir,” she confidently claimed.
