Haryana Assembly elections for the 90 constituencies will be held in a single phase on October 1, with vote counting scheduled for October 4, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced.

During a press conference, Kumar detailed that there are 2.01 crore voters in Haryana, including 1.06 crore males, 0.95 crore females, 4.52 lakh first-time voters, and 40.95 lakh young voters. The electoral roll will be published on August 27, 2024. Key dates include September 12 for the final day of nominations, September 13 for nomination scrutiny, and September 16 for withdrawal of candidatures.

BJP leader Anil Vij welcomed the election date, expressing the party’s readiness, while former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan both affirmed their party’s preparedness and confidence in winning the elections.

The Election Commission also recently assessed election preparations in Jammu and Kashmir, where assembly elections will be conducted in three phases starting September 18.

The current Haryana government’s term ends on November 3, 2024. Following the 2019 elections, the BJP-JJP coalition government was formed, but the alliance dissolved earlier this year, setting the stage for a four-way contest in 2024 involving BJP, Congress, JJP, and AAP.
