Sometimes, objects hold deep sentimental value, as shown by a family’s unique farewell to their 12-year-old car in Gujarat. Instead of selling it, they conducted a full burial ceremony to honor it, an event that cost over ₹4 lakh and drew nearly 1,500 attendees.

As reported by the Times of India (TOI), this unusual event took place on the family’s farmland in Gujarat’s Amreli district. The grand ceremony was attended by family, spiritual leaders, and community members, all gathering to pay their respects to the vehicle.

The Ceremonial Farewell

The ceremony quickly gained attention on social media. Viral footage shared by journalist Kamit Solanki shows the family’s car, a Wagon R, being guided down a 15-foot slope into a pre-dug pit.

A “Lucky Car” for the Family

Sanjay Polara, the family head, organized this event to create a memory for future generations, saying the car was “lucky” for them. According to Polara, the car brought prosperity to his family over the years. He told the media, “I bought this car nearly 12 years ago, and it brought prosperity to the family. Apart from seeing success in business, my family also gained respect. The vehicle proved lucky for my family and me. Hence, instead of selling it, I gave it a samadhi at my farm as a tribute.”

The Burial Ceremony Details

The farewell was conducted with respect and rituals. The family adorned the car with floral decorations and garlands, then transported it from their residence to the farmland. Draped in green fabric, the car was lowered into the pit, as priests performed rituals, chanting mantras. After offering rose petals and completing the puja, the family buried their cherished vehicle with soil, honoring it with a unique send-off.
