Google is boosting security for Android users with the introduction of new anti-theft features designed to protect personal data in case of a stolen device.
According to GSM Arena, the updates include the Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and an enhanced Remote Lock function. The first two are new features that were announced earlier this year.
The Theft Detection Lock leverages artificial intelligence and the device’s sensors to detect motions typically associated with theft. For example, if someone grabs the phone from a user’s hand and tries to flee, the feature will automatically lock the device, blocking access to all apps and data. It can also identify movements often linked to theft while riding a bike or in a car, according to GSM Arena.

The Offline Device Lock further strengthens security by locking the phone if a thief attempts to keep it disconnected from the internet for a long period. This ensures the device stays secure even when offline.
The Remote Lock feature allows users to lock their phones remotely using their phone number, which is especially useful if the Find My Device option is disabled or if they cannot access their Google account.
While it is still unclear which specific Android devices will receive these updates, users are encouraged to ensure they have the latest version of Google Play Services installed to benefit from these new security enhancements, as noted by GSM Arena.
