Google Maps is set to roll out new features next month aimed at enhancing urban driving. The upgrade will provide visual cues for the correct lane during turns and display critical elements such as crosswalks, traffic signs, and lane restrictions, The Verge reports. Starting in November, this feature will be available to users in 30 major U.S. metropolitan areas on both Android and iOS devices.

Designed to reduce the stress of driving in unfamiliar areas, the new navigation tools build on existing features like lane guidance and 3D route visualization. Alongside these updates, Google Maps is enhancing its “destination guidance” feature, with improvements expected this week. Users will now have clearer destination highlights, building entrances, and information about nearby parking lots. Additionally, the app will remind users of their parking location and offer walking directions to building entrances, according to The Verge.

Google Maps is also expanding its reporting capabilities to cover adverse weather conditions, alerting users to hazards like low visibility, fog, snow, unplowed roads, and flooding, helping ensure safer travel in challenging weather.

In addition to these navigation improvements, Google is integrating more artificial intelligence features to help users explore new places. Waze, Google’s other navigation platform, is also testing voice-activated incident reporting to improve real-time updates for drivers, as noted by The Verge.

Recent updates to Google Maps include AI-driven features, such as summarizing reviews for electric vehicle chargers and offering personalized dining and attraction recommendations. As Google continues to enhance its mapping services, users can look forward to a more seamless and informative navigation experience.
