British child actor Owen Cooper has made history by winning the Emmy Award for his role in the Netflix series Adolescence. Cooper now holds the record for the youngest male to have ever taken home an Emmy award.
Adolescence Star Owen Cooper Makes History
At the 77th Emmy Awards held at Peacock Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, California, the world saw the 15-year-old Owen Cooper grace the stage to accept the award for his performance in the Netflix crime drama Adolescence. He won the award in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category.
Cooper beat Javier Bardem (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Bill Camp (Presumed Innocent), Rob Delaney (Dying for Sex), Peter Sarsgaard (Presumed Innocent), and Ashley Walters (Adolescence) to achieve the honour. Previously, the record for the youngest person to win an Emmy was held by Scott Jacoby, who won the award at just 16 years of age in 1973 for his performance in That Certain Summer.
Netflix also took part in the celebrations by sharing the historic feat. The streaming giant posted the picture of Cooper accepting the honour with the caption, “Youngest Emmy winner ever in any male acting category.”

Adolescence Wins Big at 77th Emmy Awards
In addition to Owen Cooper’s historic achievement, Adolescence also won the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series
award. It also took home wins in six major categories. However, The Studio took home the most awards in total categories with 13 wins.
