Former RTDC chairman, Dharmendra Rathore urges immediate action on fish deaths at Pushkar Sarovar

Due to the falling water level and increasing water pollution, thousands of fishes are dying every day in Pushkar Sarovar. The ongoing issue of dying fish in Pushkar Sarovar is deeply affecting the religious sentiments of countless devotees. The sight of the fish deaths and the resulting foul odor are not only distressing but also undermine the sacred atmosphere of the lake, which is integral to the faith and devotion of many. This situation has caused considerable sadness among the devotees, who revere Pushkar Sarovar as a holy site.

Considering this issue as of prime importance, former Chairman of RTDC Dharmendra Rathore worte a letter to the District Collector, Ajmer Dr Bharti Dixit and urged to take the matter seriously and on priority. In the letter, he stated that Urgent Action Needed to Address Dying Fish Crisis at Pushkar Sarovar. Talking about the sanctity of the lake he added that, Pushkar Sarovar, the revered holy lake dedicated to Jagat Pita Brahma Ji, has been facing a serious environmental crisis in recent days. Reports indicate that a significant number of fish have been dying, causing a foul odor to pervade the lake. This situation is having a detrimental effect on the faith of the lakhs of devotees who visit the sacred site, especially with the onset of the Sawan month, a time of heightened religious activity.

He mentioned that as Kawadias begin their pilgrimage to collect water from Pushkar Sarovar, the urgency of the lake’s environmental crisis has intensified. The significant die-off of fish and the accompanying foul odor are causing considerable distress. This situation is undermining the sanctity of the lake, which is crucial to the religious practices of many devotees. The unpleasant conditions at Pushkar Sarovar are increasingly troubling as the lake’s revered status is threatened.

He further said that, in response to the crisis he has reached out to the Pushkar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to address the problem promptly. The SDM informed me that the fish deaths are primarily due to insufficient oxygen levels in the lake’s water. Efforts are underway to improve the oxygenation and mitigate further fish mortality.

He said that, during the government of Ashok Gehlot, then government had started development work at a cost of crores of rupees for the renovation of 52 ghats of Pushkar Sarovar, but now in the present BJP government, Pushkar Sarovar seems to be neglected. Stating the situation as dire, he emphasized that, it is imperative that immediate action be taken to address the ongoing issues affecting the lake. Public representatives, including Water Resources Minister Suresh Rawat, are urged to prioritize the sanctity of Pushkar Sarovar and the faith of its devotees.

The call for action emphasizes the need for prompt and effective measures to restore the lake and ensure that its spiritual significance is upheld. The situation requires dedicated efforts from all relevant authorities to resolve the crisis and protect the revered status of Pushkar Sarovar.

He concluded the letter with a humble request for urgent attention to the matter and appropriate action to be taken. He also urged all public representatives, including Water Resources Minister Suresh Rawat, to implement measures that will preserve the sanctity of Pushkar Sarovar and uphold the faith of its devotees. He said that to preserve the lake’s revered status and maintain the faith of its visitors, there is a pressing need for prompt intervention and take decisive action to restore Pushkar Sarovar to its former glory.
