The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Hospital, on Monday in connection with allegations of ‘financial misconduct’ at the medical institution, as reported by PTI.
This arrest follows the recent filing of an FIR by the CBI, which named Ghosh and three Kolkata-based private firms—Ma Tara Traders from Madhya Jhorehat, Banipur, Howrah; Eshan Cafe located at 4/1 Belgachia; and Khama Louha—in its investigation into suspected financial irregularities during Ghosh’s tenure.
The FIR was lodged as per the directives of the Calcutta High Court. On August 25, the CBI conducted an extensive search at Ghosh’s residence in Beliaghata, Kolkata, as part of their investigation into the corruption charges. Additionally, the agency is investigating the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor, which occurred in the early hours of August 9 in the hospital’s seminar hall.
The Enforcement Directorate has also registered a money laundering case to examine the alleged financial discrepancies at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during Ghosh’s administration, along with others involved, according to PTI.
In light of these developments, the Indian Medical Association recently suspended Sandip Ghosh’s membership.
