At least 23 people were injured when a fire broke out on a Ferris wheel at the Highfield music festival near Leipzig, Germany, on Saturday night. According to reports, the fire began in one gondola and spread to a second, resulting in injuries to four individuals from burns and one from a fall. Additionally, several others, including first responders and at least four police officers, are being assessed in the hospital for possible smoke inhalation.
The incident occurred at Störmthaler Lake, where the Highfield festival was taking place. As of Sunday morning, police had not yet determined the exact number of casualties or provided detailed information about the condition of those injured. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
The operator of the Ferris wheel confirmed that no passengers were present in the gondola where the fire started.
