In an unusual incident in the Pali district of Rajasthan, India, a farmer accidentally absorbed a deadly pesticide while spraying it on his cotton crop. The farmer was administering a highly toxic pesticide when more than half a litre of the poison entered his body. Prompt action by the medical team at Bagad Hospital saved the farmer’s life, as they administered an astonishing 5,000 injections over 24 days.
The farmer was immediately rushed to Bagad Hospital in an unconscious state by his family members, who realized the gravity of the situation when they discovered the highly poisonous pesticide had entered his body.
The chances of his survival were extremely slim, but the medical team at Bagad Hospital did not give up. They administered an incredible 5,000 injections over the course of 24 days to counteract the effects of the pesticide. Remarkably, their dedication and efforts paid off, and the farmer made a full recovery. The pesticide had penetrated his body to the extent of 600 millilitres.
Dr. Praveen, a physician at the hospital, explained that they initially started by providing the patient with oxygen because he was unable to breathe on his own. Then, they began administering injections of the antidote drug atropine. The patient received 208 injections daily to counteract the poison’s effects. Along with these injections, the patient was also given medication.
This incident serves as a testament to the dedication and determination of the medical team at Bagad Hospital in saving the farmer’s life despite the extremely challenging circumstances.
