Despite farmer protests, BJP candidate Hans Raj Hans commenced his election campaign from Faridkot on Thursday.
Starting his journey at Tilla Baba Farid, the revered site honoring Sheikh Farid, the Sufi saint, Hans recited verses from sacred texts and pledged to traverse his parliamentary constituency barefoot.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to contest from the land of Baba Farid, Hans declared his intention to draw inspiration from the Sufi saint. However, his path was met with opposition as farmers, aligned with the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), waved black flags along the route.
Addressing the farmers’ concerns, Hans reminisced about his visits to the Singhu and Tikri borders during the 2020-21 protests. He expressed hope for reconciliation with the dissenting farmers.
Having previously served as the MP for North-West Delhi in 2019, Hans now faces AAP candidate Karamjit Anmol and potentially Congress’ Mohd Sadique, the incumbent MP from Faridkot.
