Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 26 (ANI): Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has clarified his recent remarks made around the casting of actor Deepika Padukone in the 2012 film ‘Cocktail’.
The filmmaker shared a clip of his interview and expressed immense admiration for Deepika Padukone, explaining that he could never be mean to her.
“My dearest and loveliest @deepikapadukone, you are my pal, my buddy, my safe option for humour. I think you will never misunderstand my wannabe fun remarks because you more than anyone else know how much I love you, admire you, understand you, appreciate you… but I have been told you might misunderstand and be hurt. So I am telling you pl don’t… To be mean to you is janam mein to possible nahin hai…” Imtiaz Ali wrote.
Sending her best wishes to the actor, he added, “I never thought I would write such a disclaimer to you, but it’s been a while, and I didn’t want to take a chance. Wish you the best and love always.”
Speaking of which, the clarification comes at a time when a video of Imtiaz Ali’s remarks on the casting of the original ‘Cocktail’ movie has been going viral on social media.
In the video, the filmmaker revealed how he found the character of Veronica “different” from Deepika’s image at the time of its making.
“She (Deepika) called me, and I asked her to play Veronica. Veronica is so different from what Deepika’s image was at that time. Since I had been doing parties with her, I know how crazy and wild she can be. She was otherwise projected to be such a good girl at that time. Now people have seen through the facade. I thought this would be a new thing for Deepika to do,” Imtiaz said in the viral interview.
The ‘Fighter’ actor is yet to react to the comments. (ANI)
