Veteran actor and BJP MP Hema Malini shared an emotional tribute to her late husband Dharmendra after receiving the prestigious Padma Vibhushan on his behalf at the Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The award was presented by Droupadi Murmu, honouring Dharmendra’s exceptional contribution to Indian cinema and the arts. Reflecting on the deeply moving occasion, Hema Malini described it as a “euphoric moment,” saying she felt Dharmendra’s presence beside her as she walked to the dais to accept the nation’s second-highest civilian honour.

In a heartfelt note, the veteran actress recalled their decades-long journey together—from co-stars in numerous blockbuster films to life partners sharing a lifetime of memories. She said the moment brought tears to her eyes as memories of their personal and professional bond came flooding back.

Remembering Dharmendra as a devoted husband, caring father, affectionate grandfather, trusted friend and guide, Hema Malini said he was admired and loved by everyone who knew him. She accepted the honour with humility on behalf of the entire family, his countless fans and well-wishers across the country.

Speaking earlier, Hema Malini expressed pride that the government had recognised Dharmendra’s immense contribution to Indian cinema. She noted that while the honour brought joy to the family and his admirers, it would have made the legendary actor especially happy had he been alive to receive it personally.

Fondly known as Bollywood’s original “He-Man,” Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89. Over a remarkable career spanning more than six decades, he delivered memorable performances in classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Anupama and Ayee Milan Ki Bela, cementing his status as one of Indian cinema’s most beloved icons.

The Padma Vibhushan was conferred upon Dharmendra for his distinguished and exceptional service to the arts, ensuring that his extraordinary legacy continues to be celebrated by generations of film lovers.
