In a significant step towards strengthening the fight against drug abuse in Punjab, popular singer Yo Yo Honey Singh met BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh in Amritsar on Tuesday to discuss ways of supporting initiatives aimed at creating a drug-free Punjab.
During the interaction, Honey Singh expressed concern over the growing drug menace in the state and its devastating impact on families and young people. Addressing the issue, the singer said that Punjab is facing a difficult phase as substance abuse continues to affect countless households and destroy the future of the youth. He acknowledged the efforts already being undertaken to combat the problem and emphasized the need for collective action to bring meaningful change.
Tarun Chugh welcomed the singer and described him as a proud son of Punjab whose journey serves as an inspiration to many. Highlighting Honey Singh’s personal struggles and successful comeback, Chugh said the singer’s life story demonstrates that recovery and redemption are possible with determination and perseverance.
Referring to Honey Singh’s battle with addiction and subsequent return to the top of the entertainment industry, Chugh said his experience could motivate young people battling substance abuse. He urged the singer to use his popularity, music and influence to inspire Punjab’s youth to stay away from drugs and embrace a healthier future.
“The river of drugs is eating away at Punjab’s youth like a tsunami,” Chugh remarked, stressing the urgency of addressing the crisis. He added that if Honey Singh could overcome addiction and rebuild his life, countless young people across the state could draw strength from his example and do the same.
The BJP leader also appealed to the younger generation to distance themselves from substance abuse and reconnect with Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, spiritual traditions and values.
The meeting comes amid growing efforts by political leaders, artists and social influencers to raise awareness about the dangers of drug addiction. Earlier this month, singer Mika Singh also met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in Chanedigarh and pledged support for anti-drug initiatives in the state. During that meeting, discussions also focused on promoting Punjabi language, culture and heritage on a global platform.
With influential voices from the entertainment industry joining the campaign, the movement against drug abuse in Punjab is expected to gain wider public attention and encourage greater participation from the youth in building a healthier and addiction-free society.
