India’s constitutional body Election Commission of India has demanded factual information and details from Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh over allegations, that Union Home Minister Amit Shah made calls to 150 district magistrates before the upcoming vote counting on Sunday.
Further, the poll body seeks congress leader’s response by evening.
Through its letter, EC also said, that so far, no DM has reported the exercise of any undue influence over the poll body.
Later, the poll body also emphasized, that the counting of votes is a very sacred duty.
“The process of counting of votes is a sacred duty cast upon every RO and such public statements by a senior, responsible and experienced leader tend to put an element of doubt and thus, deserves to be addressed in larger public interest.” said ECI in its letter.
Additionally, the election authority has requested details of 150 district magistrates who received such calls by 7 pm today, in order to take appropriate action.
“You being a responsible experienced and very senior leader of a nation party, you must have made such public statement just before the day of counting based on facts, information which you believed to be true. It is requested that details of 150 DMs to whom such calls have been allegedly made by the home minister along with the factual matrix basis of your information are shared by 7pm today so that appropriate action can be taken.” added ECI.
Earlier on Saturday, congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed on social media platform X, that Amit Shah had talked to 150 DMs or collectors before vote counting.
“The outgoing home minister has been calling up DMs/Collectors. So far, he has spoken to 150 of them. This is blatant and brazen intimidation, showing how desperate the BJP is.” alleged Jairam Ramesh.
In his tweet, he further asserted, that people’s will prevail on June 4, Modi, shah and BJP will be defeated and INDIA Bloc will come on power.
“Let it be very clear: the will of the people shall prevail, and on June 4th, Mr. Modi, Mr. Shah, and the BJP will exit, and the INDIA Janbandhan will be victorious.” added Ramesh.
He also added, officers shouldn’t be under pressure and should adhere to constitution.
