Amid several complaints received from thr political parties in Maharashtra, the Election Commission of India on Monday ordered the immediate transfer of Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Shukla and asked the Chief Secretary to give charge to any other senior most IPS officer.
According to EC officials, the poll panel has ordered for immediate transfer of Maharashtra DGP Shukla, acting on the complaints from Congress and other parties.
The official said that EC also directed the Maharashtra chief secretary to hand over her charge to the next seniormost IPS officer in the cadre and send a panel of three IPS officers by November 5 till 1 p.m. for appointment as DGP Maharashtra.
The development came days after Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole made the demand for the transfer of Shukla as DGP. Besides Patole, even Shiv Sena (UBT) had made similar demands with the ECI.
The polling for 288 member assembly pos in Maharashtra is scheduled in November 20 and counting of votes will take place on November 23. The Commission had earlier also removed the DGP of Jharkhand ahead of the two phase elections in the mineral rich eastern state.
