Delhi Metro’s New Bike Taxi Service: Empowering Women Drivers And Women-Only Rides!

In a major move to improve last-mile connectivity, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially launched a new bike taxi service, aimed at providing a faster and more efficient mode of transport for commuters. The initiative, which was unveiled by Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, on November 11, 2024, is now available across 12 metro stations and promises to offer quicker rides while reducing commute times.

How the Service Works

The new bike taxi service can be easily accessed through the DMRC Momentum mobile app, also known as Delhi Sarthi 2.0. This facility optimizes routes to ensure riders reach their destinations faster, helping commuters save time on their journey. The service is currently operational at key stations, including Dwarka Sec-21, Dwarka Sec-10, Dwarka Sec-14, and several other locations in both Delhi and Gurgaon.

Two Types of Services: RYDR and SHE RYDS

Commuters can choose between two types of bike taxis—RYDR, which is available for all passengers, and SHE RYDS, a unique service dedicated to female passengers. SHE RYDS aims to provide a safer, women-only ride option with women drivers who have undergone thorough verification and training. This initiative not only ensures a secure commuting experience for women but also empowers female drivers by offering them employment opportunities.

Sustainable and Affordable Commute

In line with sustainability goals, the bike taxis operate on electric bikes, reducing the carbon footprint of the service. The pricing structure is designed to be affordable, starting at a minimum charge of ₹10, followed by ₹10 per km for the first 2 km and ₹8 per km thereafter. This ensures that the service remains accessible to a broad range of commuters.

Expansion Plans: More Stations and Vehicles Coming Soon

Currently, the bike taxi service operates with 150 RYDRs and 50 SHE RYDS from the 12 stations, with service hours from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm. In the coming months, DMRC plans to expand the service to over 100 metro stations and increase the number of available bikes to around 1000. The expansion is set to cover more of Delhi’s metro network, further enhancing the convenience for passengers and making last-mile connectivity easier.

Collaboration with Last Mile Connectivity Provider

This service is being rolled out in partnership with First And Last Mile Connectivity India Pvt. Ltd., highlighting the collaboration between the DMRC and private entities to provide a seamless travel experience for commuters.

A Step Toward Smarter Urban Mobility

With the introduction of the bike taxi service, DMRC is not only enhancing the ease of commuting but also contributing to a cleaner, greener Delhi by promoting electric transportation. As the service expands across more stations, it will likely become a game-changer in the city’s public transport system, making it faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly.
