Delhi High Court Stays Bail For Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal In Excise Policy Case

The Delhi High Court on Friday stayed the bail granted to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by a trial court a day earlier.

On June 20, the Rouse Avenue Court had granted bail to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader upon the payment of a Rs 1 lakh bond. Kejriwal had been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy case.

The high court ruled that the trial court’s bail order would be stayed until it could properly hear the matter. This decision came after the Rouse Avenue Court denied the ED’s request to delay Kejriwal’s bail for 48 hours to allow time for further legal action.

The ED then took the issue to the high court on Friday. During the hearing, counsels Additional Solicitor General SV Raju and Special Public Prosecutor Zoeb Hossain argued, “We were not given ample opportunity to argue the matter before the vacation judge…I was not even given time to file a written submission.”
