Farmer leader Dallewal on Thursday issued a statement addressing the supreme court requesting the top court to consider that the lives of those farmers who committed suicide due to flawed government policies were far more significant than his life.
“Initially, only farmers and agricultural laborers demanded an MSP Guarantee Law, but now even the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture has clearly stated in its report that an MSP Guarantee Law should be enacted. This law would benefit farmers, the rural economy, and the nation as a whole. This committee, comprising 31 MPs from all political parties, underscores the importance of such a law”, reads the statement.
“We request you to direct the Central Government to respect the committee’s recommendations and farmers’ sentiments by enacting an MSP Guarantee Law to prevent further farmer suicides”, he requested the court stating that the demands they are fighting for are not merely demands of the farmers, but these are promises made to the farmers by successive governments.
