Cyclone Mandous to cross TN, Puducherry by Dec 9, says IMD

A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclonic Storm Mandous which will cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry by December 9 midnight, as reported by the weather department.
The Indian Meteorological department (IMD) tweeted, “CS Mandous over SW BoB about 500km ESE of Karaikal. To move WNW and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south AP coast bw Puducherry and Sriharikota with a wind speed of 70 kmph around midnight of 09 Dec.”
Additionally, the IMD issued a yellow advisory for the coasts of north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh.
To warn fisherman of the impending storm and discourage them from going out into the open ocean, storm warning cage No. 2 has been built at Pamban Port in Rameshwaram island.
The fishermen had previously been forewarned by the MeT to stay out of the choppy waters for the next three days.

Over the coming days, there will likely be a lot of rain in Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
At roughly 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday, the depression strengthened into cyclonic storm Mandous, which was located around 640 km southwest of the Chennai coast, 370 km east-northeast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, and 500 km east of Jaffna.
IMD tweeted at 3.12 a.m. on Thursday, “Deep Depression over Southwest and surrounding Southeast Bay of Bengal strengthened into a Cyclonic Storm “Mandous,” pronounced “Man-Dous” (Cyclone Alert for north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts): Yellow Message.
The deep depression over the southwest and adjacent south-east Bay of Bengal is expected to move west-northwestward, gradually build into a cyclonic storm, and eventually reach the southwest Bay of Bengal, north Tamil Nadu, according to an earlier forecast from the IMD. Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh coast by Thursday morning.
