Senior Haryana Congress leader Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti Chaudhary have resigned from the primary membership of the party, citing dissatisfaction with its internal functioning and leadership decisions. Kiran Choudhry, a prominent figure in Haryana politics and daughter-in-law of former Chief Minister Choudhary Bansi Lal, expressed her disappointment in a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, alleging that the party in Haryana is being run like a “personal fiefdom.”

“It is most unfortunate that the Congress Party in Haryana is being run as the personal fiefdom leaving no space for sincere voices like mine,” Kiran Choudhry wrote, highlighting that her efforts to represent the people have been stifled and undermined systematically.

She further emphasized her commitment to the values of her father-in-law, Choudhary Bansi Lal, and stated her priority for the honest development of Haryana.

Similarly, Shruti Chaudhary, a former Member of Parliament and a working president of the Haryana Congress, echoed her mother’s sentiments, criticizing the party’s leadership for becoming “one-person centric” and prioritizing personal interests over the party’s welfare.

“…It is thus time for me to move on so that I may continue to uphold the interest of my people and the values that I stand for,” Shruti Chaudhary remarked in her statement.

Their decision comes after Shruti Chaudhary was denied a ticket from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency in the recent Lok Sabha elections, a move perceived as favoritism towards Bhupinder Singh Hooda, a senior leader within the party.

Kiran Choudhry confirmed their decision to leave the Congress and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi, scheduled for Wednesday.

The departure of Kiran Choudhry and Shruti Chaudhary marks a significant political shift in Haryana ahead of upcoming elections, signaling discontent and realignment within the state’s political landscape.
