CISF personnel from NFC Pazahayakayal in Thoothukudi played a crucial role in the rescue and relief operations during the devastating Tamil Nadu floods. Despite the challenging conditions, they ensured the safe passage of people and the delivery of essential supplies.
The heavy rains caused havoc in Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari, resulting in numerous casualties. In response, the state government and the Centre collaborated to launch a massive rescue and relief operation. Prime Minister Modi personally assured his support to Tamil Nadu and assigned Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to assess the flood situation.
Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his prompt attention to the dire situation. He highlighted “the urgent need for financial support from the Union government to address the mounting challenges faced by the state” CM Stalin said in a post on X.
In response, PM Modi assured full support from the Union government to help Tamil Nadu overcome these twin calamities. The Indian Air Force also contributed to the relief efforts by air-dropping over 11 tons of relief materials in the rain-ravaged Thoothkudi district.
While the rescue operation in the flood-affected southern districts has been completed, the focus now shifts to the restoration of basic services. However, some districts still face communication disruptions and the inundation of roads and railway tracks due to the incessant rainfall.
