The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) National President, JP Nadda, has concluded his tenure. Although his term was extended until June 2024, he has now been assigned significant governmental responsibilities. Consequently, the BJP is actively seeking a new president.

The BJP aims to appoint a new national president by December this year, with the election process slated to begin on August 1. Prior to the presidential election, the party will conduct an extensive membership drive and bolster its district and state units.

The election process for the new BJP national president will commence on August 1, starting with a membership drive that will continue until September 15. This will be followed by an active membership campaign from September 16 to September 30, with verification of active membership taking place from October 1 to October 15.

Under the BJP party constitution, every member is required to renew their membership every nine years. This year, the Prime Minister, party president, and all leaders will also need to renew their membership.

From November 1 to November 15, elections for Mandal (local unit) presidents will be held, followed by district president elections from November 16 to November 30. Sources within the BJP indicate that elections for state council and central council members will follow these elections, preceding the selection of state presidents.

The process for electing state presidents will begin on December 1. Once elections in 50 percent of the states are completed, the formal process to elect the national president will commence.

This structured and phased approach aims to ensure the BJP’s organizational strength as it prepares for leadership transition. The upcoming elections are critical for the party’s readiness to face future political challenges and opportunities.

It is noteworthy that JP Nadda has been appointed Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha. Nadda, elected as Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat, also holds the portfolios of Health, Chemicals, and Fertilizers in the Modi 3.0 cabinet post the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
