BJP gears up for legislative meeting ahead of special Haryana Assembly session

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has convened a crucial meeting of its legislative party on October 24 at the residence of Chief Minister Nayab Saini in Chandigarh, just one day ahead of a special session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha set for October 25. This meeting will be Saini’s first opportunity to engage with the party’s legislators since taking office.
The agenda is clear: the election for the new Speaker of the Assembly. With the Speaker’s election confirmed for October 25, party insiders expect to reach a consensus on the candidate during the upcoming meeting. While the Deputy Speaker’s election may be postponed, the primary focus will be on securing a united front among BJP lawmakers.
During the meeting, legislators will not only discuss potential candidates for the Speaker’s role but will also strategize on the process for proposing and seconding the nominee during the Assembly session.
This coordinated approach aims to mitigate any internal conflicts that could disrupt the proceedings. In preparation for the session, the Haryana Vidhan Sabha Secretariat has appointed MLA Raghuveer Singh Kadian as the Protem Speaker. Kadian will oversee the administration of oaths to newly elected MLAs at the beginning of the session, followed by the elections for both the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

The agenda is clear: the election for the new Speaker of the Assembly.

While various names have circulated for the Speaker’s position, sources indicate that Gharaunda MLA Harvinder Kalyan has emerged as the frontrunner. A seasoned politician with three terms under his belt, Kalyan is seen as a strong candidate for the role. Additionally, other senior MLAs, including Mool Chand Sharma from Ballabgarh in Faridabad district, are also being considered. Another point of discussion that may arise during the legislative party meeting is the lack of representation from Karnal district in the state cabinet.
Political observers suggest this issue could gain traction as the BJP seeks to maintain unity and navigate key political decisions in the forthcoming session.
As the BJP prepares for this critical juncture, party leaders are determined to foster a sense of cooperation among their ranks, setting the stage for a productive and harmonious Assembly session.
