Sasaram is a name that wouldn’t have escaped the pages of Indian history books, being the capital of the Sur Empire when Sher Shah Suri, the visionary ruler who ousted Humayun and paved the Grand Trunk Road was in power.

It is a district headquarters of Rohtas district in Bihar and its high literacy rate of 80.26 percent notwithstanding, the politics of Sasaram remains mired in caste alignments rather than ideology.

Sasaram Constituency Election 2025 Date

Sasaram will go to the polls in Phase 2 of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, scheduled on November 11, 2025. The counting of votes will take place on November 14, 2025. One of the 243 constituencies of Bihar legislative assembly, Sasaram is expected to see, once again, an RJD versus BJP contest, with the JD(U) giving the seat a miss.

Sasaram Bihar Election Result 2020

In the 2020 Assembly elections, Rajesh Kumar Gupta of the RJD defeated JD(U)’s Ashok Kumar by a big margin of 26,423 votes, which was a big blow to the NDA. BJP had given the Sasaram seat, which it had been getting in the past, to JD(U) as part of a seat-sharing deal. Two-time back to back victories had tilted the power equation by making Sasaram a stronghold of Tejashwi Yadav’s party.
