Belhar is a constituency in Bihar’s Banka district, is referred to as the Yadav community’s political heartland. About 31 per cent of its electorates are from the OBC Yadav caste, which has given this constituency its political character over years.

Indeed, half of all legislators elected from this constituency have been Yadavs, accounting for the political clout of the community. The fertile land of the area, nourished by rivers Harigar and Tribani supports an agrarian economy where farming is the chief occupation.

Belhar Constituency Election 2025 Date

The Belhar Assembly Election 2025 will take place on November 11, 2025, as a part of Phase 2 of the Bihar polls. Counting of votes will be held on November 14, 2025. It is expected to see another close contest at the seat between JD(U) and RJD, which are deeply rooted in the political and social landscape of the region.

Belhar Bihar Election Result 2020

In the 2020 Assembly election, JD(U)’s Manoj Yadav narrowly outscored RJD’s Ramdeo Yadav by 2,473 votes. The result underlined Belhar’s contested politics, with both JD(U) and RJD having formidable local bases. The LJP played the spoiler by dividing a section of votes without upsetting JD(U). Earlier, RJD’s Ramdeo Yadav had won the seat in the 2019 by-election after Giridhari Yadav resigned following his election to the Lok Sabha.

Voting across Belhar would be held from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. under enhanced security. The Election Commission is expected to deploy extra personnel at sensitive booths due to the large rural turnout.

What is the population in Belhar?

The Belhar block, according to the 2011 Census, had a population of 167,719 with a sex ratio of 909 and a literacy rate of 60.15%. The adjoining Chandan block had 165,634 people, while Fullidumar recorded 125,251 residents. Dominated by agriculture, Hindi along with Angika are the main spoken languages.

How Many Belhar Registered Voters?

In 2020, Belhar constituency had 307,445 registered voters, which increased to 329,380 in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The constituency’s electorate includes 13.43% Scheduled Castes, 7.79% Scheduled Tribes, and 5.5% Muslim voters, with no urban pockets making it a purely rural seat.

Belhar Was Established In?

The Belhar Assembly constituency was established in 1962 and forms one of the six segments of the Banka Lok Sabha seat. Historically, the Congress and JD(U) have each won it four times, while the RJD has claimed it thrice. In 2025, all eyes once again are on Manoj Yadav and Ajay Sharma as Belhar readies for another election that may redefine the balance of power in this Yadav dominated heartland.
