Speculation about a possible sequel to Dangal has sparked excitement after images of actor-producer Aamir Khan chatting with wrestler Vinesh Phogat surfaced on social media. Fans quickly jumped to conclusions, anticipating another sports drama following the success of Aamir’s 2016 blockbuster Dangal. A recent tweet asked, “Aamir Khan has spoken to Vinesh Phogat on a video call. Your reaction?” Fans eagerly responded, with many expressing excitement for Dangal 2.

In the photos, Aamir Khan and Vinesh Phogat appeared in high spirits as they spoke via video call. A fan page on Instagram shared the images, captioning, “Aamir Khan congratulated Vinesh Phogat on her impressive performance in Paris during a video call. He acknowledged her three fights as a testament to her champion mentality. Former wrestler Kripa Shankar, who mentored the actors in Dangal, was also part of the call.”

Dangal featured Aamir as Mahavir Singh Phogat, a wrestler who trained his daughters, Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, to become India’s first world-class female wrestlers. Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra played the older versions of the Phogat sisters, while Zaira Wasim and the late Suhani Bhatnagar portrayed their younger selves.

The photos of Aamir and Vinesh’s call were also widely shared on Twitter. One user commented, “Dangal 2 is on its way!” Another chimed in, “Two champions together.” Another tweet humorously predicted, “Aamir Khan will make a film and mint money! Just wait and see!”

Vinesh Phogat had recently been in the spotlight during the Paris Olympics 2024, where she reached the final of the women’s 50kg wrestling event but was disqualified for breaching the weight limit before the final match. Despite this setback, Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling the following day. She also appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a joint silver medal, but the appeal was ultimately dismissed after several deferrals.
