An American man, known on Instagram as ‘John In India,’ recently shared his humorous yet heartfelt experience of Indian hospitality. In a video, John described what happens when he visits someone’s house unannounced in India. While he was deeply touched by the warm welcome, he jokingly mentioned one “problem” that often accompanies this hospitality. “How do I visit an Indian’s house without them feeding me too much food?” he asked his 16,000 followers. He expressed that although he appreciates the generosity, it sometimes feels overwhelming. “I love the hospitality, but sometimes it is too much!” he admitted.

In the video, John praised Indians for their exceptional hospitality. “I could show up at an Indian’s house at 4 p.m. without any prior notice, and they would still feed me a lot of food,” he said. He humorously added that if he did the same in America, he’d be lucky to get even a glass of water. John continued to explain that the “only problem” he faces in India is that “they give me way too much food.” He playfully expressed his dilemma, saying, “I try to be polite and indirect in telling them that I’m getting full, but they still give me more food. I feel like it would be rude to stop eating.”

The video, posted just a few days ago, quickly gained traction on social media. It has garnered over 38,000 views and nearly 1 million likes, sparking various comments from amused viewers.

Social Media Reactions

John’s humorous take on Indian hospitality prompted a flurry of comments from his followers. One user jokingly offered a “cheat code” for managing the food overload: “Tell them you’re getting full when you’re only halfway there. By the end of the meal, you’ll actually be full. By the way, more food equals more love!” Another user shared a similar sentiment from an American perspective, writing, “I live in America, and if you come and say hello to my mom and tell her you love Indian food, she’ll feed you right away.”

The video highlights not only the cultural differences between the U.S. and India but also the warmth and affection that Indian families show towards their guests, even when it might feel a bit excessive.
