India’s Aman Sehrawat clinched a bronze medal in the men’s 57kg wrestling category at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday. Competing at the Champ de Arena, Aman defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz with a score of 13-5.
Aman, the youngest male wrestler at the Paris Games, had previously faced a setback in the semifinals, where he lost to Japan’s top-seed wrestler Rei Higuchi. Despite this, Aman showcased his skills throughout the tournament, starting with a decisive 10-0 victory over North Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov in the Round of 16. He further demonstrated his dominance with a 12-0 technical superiority win over Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakanov in the quarterfinals.
Aman’s achievement follows Ravi Kumar Dahiya’s silver medal in the same weight class at the Tokyo Olympics. Aman, who defeated Dahiya at the national selection trials, secured his spot for Paris 2024 and has now extended India’s impressive wrestling medal streak, ensuring a medal in the sport at every Olympics since 2008.
