Kashmir:– Aga Syed Ruhullah, Member of Parliament from Srinagar and senior leader of the National Conference, has pledged to fight for the removal of restrictions on the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar. Speaking to reporters, Ruhullah emphasized the mosque’s significance as a crucial religious and cultural site for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Ruhullah stated, “Just as we have been advocating for the Muharram processions from Zadibal to Abi Guzer, we will work to ensure that the restrictions on Jamia Masjid are lifted and that people are always allowed to offer prayers there.”

In addition to addressing the restrictions on the mosque, Ruhullah called for the immediate release of individuals arrested for expressing their support for Palestine. He condemned these arrests as unjust, underscoring the importance of protecting the rights of those standing in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

Ruhullah further criticized the Indian government’s actions post-abrogation of Article 370, predicting that the government would empower the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and disempower the Chief Minister (CM) of Jammu and Kashmir. He pointed out that this has indeed happened.

He elaborated, “Under the J&K Re-organisation Act, any secretary of the Union Home Ministry can amend laws. Our primary duty is to fight against this and restore Jammu and Kashmir to a position where the people can make decisions about their policies.”

Ruhullah also addressed Altaf Bukhari’s call for unity, questioning Bukhari’s political stance. “Bukhari must clarify his position. During the elections, he openly stated that he supported the BJP, and they supported him,” Ruhullah noted.

Aga Syed Ruhullah’s statements highlight the ongoing struggle for political and religious autonomy in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the broader issue of civil rights within the region.
