Sarfaraz, a 21-year-old labourer from West Bengal, has become an inspiration for millions by securing an impressive score of 677 out of 720 in the NEET examination. His remarkable journey from lifting bricks to earning admission to Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College in Kolkata has captivated hearts across the nation.

Hailing from a family that struggled to make ends meet, Sarfaraz worked alongside his father as a labourer, lifting 200-400 bricks daily to support his mother and younger sibling. Living in a house constructed under the PM Awas Yojana, the family faced harsh financial constraints, with Sarfaraz often studying under the open sky, his mother keeping watch to shield him from the cold.

A Journey Filled with Struggles

Sarfaraz’s aspirations initially leaned toward joining the National Defence Academy (NDA). However, after clearing the first phase in 2022, a devastating accident before the interview derailed his plans. The Covid-19 pandemic became a turning point, shifting his focus to NEET preparation. Despite clearing NEET 2023, Sarfaraz was forced to give up a dental college seat due to financial limitations. Undeterred, he persevered, ultimately securing a seat in one of Kolkata’s top medical colleges after clearing NEET 2024.

Support and Encouragement from Physics Wallah

After learning about Sarfaraz’s struggles, Physics Wallah CEO Alakh Pandey personally visited his home. Pandey pledged financial assistance by offering to cover Sarfaraz’s college fees, gifting him a new phone, and providing an interest-free loan of ₹5 lakh.

“This ₹5 lakh is not a gift but a loan. Repay it by helping someone in need, just like yourself, in the future,” Pandey advised Sarfaraz.

Sarfaraz’s story is a testament to resilience and determination. From studying on a broken phone to becoming a medical student, his journey underscores the power of hard work and the support of compassionate mentors.
