A temporary pedestrian bridge collapsed in the southern Finnish city of Espoo, causing injuries to two dozen people, including schoolchildren.

The incident occurred on Thursday in Espoo’s Tapiola neighborhood, where a bridge crossing a construction site gave way at 09:30 local time. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, but 24 individuals were injured, with 10 of them in serious condition.

The bridge was being utilized as part of a long-term redevelopment project in the Tapiola town center, which dates back to the 1950s. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse, and rescue services are conducting a technical examination of the area. Many of the injured individuals, who were part of a school group, were transported to Helsinki University Hospital.

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö expressed his concern about the incident and emphasized the importance of providing support and assistance to those affected.
