Numerology, at times, aligns with the beliefs of ancient eastern people. This is especially true when it comes to the idea of karmic debt.
Our past and current lives are palpably connected to one another. The weight of our actions tends to move between lifetimes to make us better versions of ourselves.
Karmic debt relates to the lessons that we’re meant to learn in our journey across these lifetimes. An imbalance reminds us of lessons from previous births that need our attention.

What’s Karmic Debt?
Karmic debt is related to the Hindu and Buddhist philosophy of karma. This is where the actions of a person’s previous lives go on to affect the quality and nature of their current life.
When your balance is lopsided, the universe is trying to tell you something. You have missed your opportunity in your previous life to learn some valuable lessons that are vital for your soul. With this missed opportunity comes a chance to make up for these errors and erase your cosmic balance with the right actions.
This is not carried by all individuals, but only a few who genuinely need to correct the course of their current paths. There are four major values related to cosmic balance—13, 14, 16 and 19.
How Do I Calculate My Karmic Debt Number?
Calculating your karmic debt, if you have any, is an easy process. There are three major ways of determining your karmic debt number.
Based on Day of Birth
This is the simplest method, and it involves correlating your day of birth with the karmic debt numbers. If you happen to share a birthday with the values 13, 14, 16 or 19, then these digits are automatically associated with you.
So if you were born on the 14th of April, for example, then your corresponding digit is automatically 14.
Personality Number
The second method is reliant on calculating your personality number. This number relates to your energy and the frequency you are signifying to the outside world.
It is a number that doesn’t speak to your true nature, but it represents the way you are perceived by the outside world at first glance. Calculating your personality number involves adding the digits in your birth day and birth month.
If you’re born on the 4th of June, for example, your personality number would be 4 + 6 = 10. 10 is again a combination of 1 + 0 = 1. This makes your personality number here 1.
Based on your personality number, it’s fairly easy to determine your numeric value associated with your karma.
It uses a simple formula that relates numbers from 1 to 9 to the four karmic debt numbers.
The formula is as follows:
- Personality/Life path number 4 = Karmic debt number 13 (1 + 3 = 4).
- Personality/Life path number 5 = Karmic debt number 14 (1 + 4 = 5).
- Personality/Life path number 7 = Karmic debt number 16 (1 + 6 = 7).
- Personality/Life path number 1 = Karmic debt number 19 (1 + 9 = 10, 1 + 0 = 1).
If you have a personality number that isn’t 1, 4, 5 or 7, it means that you’re not carrying any karmic debt.
Life Path Number
The final method of determining if you’re carrying any karmic debt is by calculating your life path number. An individual’s life path number is related to their truest self. It is an unwavering path that closely represents your innermost personality traits.
Calculating your life path number comes down to adding all the digits from your birth date. So if you’re born on 1st September 1990, your life path number would be 0 + 1 + 0 + 9 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 29.
29 is again broken down into 2 + 9 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2.
In this case, your life path number is 2 and according to the formula listed above, you aren’t carrying any cosmic dues whatsoever.
Destiny numbers and soul urge numbers also relate to your karmic debt number in the same way as your life path number and personality number.

Meaning of Karmic Debt Numbers
Lets now dive into what each of the karmic debt numbers actually represent. All four numbers have varying lessons and traits associated with them. Our focus, though, will remain on the most important association with each path.
Karmic Number 13
If you have a connection with path 13, it means that the biggest problem from your previous life was your lazy attitude. Laziness is the most dominant lesson associated with this path; this sign is telling you that you spent a majority of your previous life or lives in a wasteful state.
Those of you who have 13 as their karmic debt number need to focus all their talent and energy towards a productive cause because there is a lot of latent build-up from previous lives that need to be exercised.
If you’re seeing this number, then you probably have a propensity to take one too many shortcuts in life, and you need to stop doing this immediately. There is no substitute for hard work, and this is the vital lesson that you need to take away from your associated number.

Karmic Number 14
The karmic debt number 14 is directly related to the notion of control. Either you lack control or you seek far too much control than what’s good for you. It is tied into notions of power and your personality being drawn towards this attitude no matter what the cost.
It is quite likely that you spent your past lives wrestling control away from other people. If you feel like you lack control in your current life, it is probably the result of these actions bearing consequence now.
You can begin to take control and erase your karmic debt by focusing on principles of modesty and attempting to maintain emotional awareness at all times. You have to be aware of the result of your actions on others and try and contribute meaningfully to the lives of people around you.

Karmic Number 16
Individuals who have a karmic debt 16 path will find that their ego connects their previous and current lives. It is quite likely that you had an inflated sense of ego, and this caused great harm or distress to those around you.
Ego can be a powerful thing! It can help build the world up or even tear it down entirely. Your ego was clearly used for non-constructive purposes in your previous lives, which is why your debt is seeking you to deflate your ego and become more in touch with your inner self.
There are many benefits to the concept of ego contemplation, but it is not an easy journey and is perhaps the toughest lesson to be learned from all debt numbers. You need to simply take your time with this process, not allow yourself to get frustrated with the results, and merely focus on building humility and modesty over time.

Karmic Number 19
Those who are tied to this path were possibly quite selfish in their previous lives, and the debt being carried over is related to the damage caused by their selfish attitude.
If you’re finding yourself being drawn to this number by either your life path or personality number, it is important that you remember that the lesson for you here is to focus less on yourself and more on the world around you.
The message is clear that you need to broaden your inner world and let the greater world in. This helps reduce your superficial tendencies and allows you to build more meaningful relationships with the people around you.
