Mark Zuckerberg suggested that competitors such as Google and OpenAI aim to develop a singular, all-encompassing AI, rather than focusing on creating multiple tools that meet users’ specific needs.

“I find it a pretty big turnoff when people in the tech industry talk about building this one true AI,” Zuckerberg said, in an interview with YouTuber Kane Kallaway. “It’s almost as if they think they’re creating God or something. And it’s like, that’s not what we’re doing.”

How is Meta different?

Zuckerberg referenced Google’s Gemini AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT to illustrate his argument, emphasizing that Meta is prioritizing the development of diverse AI tools tailored to various purposes. Despite this approach, he noted that Meta plans to maintain and offer its AI assistant to users.

“Our overall view is that this isn’t the type of thing that there should just be one of,” he said. “People want to interact with lots of different people and businesses and there need to be a lot of different AIs that get created to reflect people’s different interests.”

What is Meta working on?

Meta is currently focused on creating Llama 3, an open-source large language model (LLM). This initiative aims to enable developers, researchers, and businesses to utilize it as a foundational platform for building their own AI tools.

What does Mark Zuckerberg have to say about AI taking away jobs?

Zuckerberg argued that AI will not lead to job loss or stifle creativity, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an open mind and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement. He highlighted the potential for AI tools to enhance productivity, particularly for creators such as social media influencers.

“Basically, we want to build more tools that just enable more people, including people who don’t consider themselves creators today,” he said. “Fundamentally, I think that there are going to be a lot more creative opportunities in the future with more powerful tools that allow people to do that.”
