In a significant step towards effective waste management, the Municipal Council of Zirakpur has commenced the construction of a compost pit near the existing dumping ground in the Peermuchalla area. Under the auspices of the Swachh Bharat Mission, the council has secured approximately Rs 90 lakh in funds dedicated to the development of this compost pit.
City council officials have articulated that the initiative aims to address the issue of waste disposal in Zirakpur systematically. The compost pit is expected to play a pivotal role in the disposal of a substantial portion of the city’s waste. Notably, the Municipal Council is actively involved in converting the waste generated in Zirakpur into compost, a sustainable approach to waste management.

Rather than resorting to the conventional practice of discarding household waste onto roadsides, the Municipal Council has shifted its focus towards producing organic fertilizer through the composting process. The resulting compost is not only utilized within the municipality’s parks but is also distributed to nearby societies.

Ranjit Kumar, Sanitary Inspector at the Municipal Council Zirakpur, emphasized the council’s ongoing commitment to resolving the garbage issue in the Zirakpur area. Construction of compost pits in the Peer Muchalla area is currently underway, utilizing the funds allocated under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The completion of compost production from these pits is anticipated in the near future, marking a significant milestone in the council’s waste management efforts. The allocated funds, totaling approximately Rs 90 lakh, underscore the council’s dedication to implementing sustainable solutions for waste disposal.

This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission, emphasizing the importance of environmentally conscious practices for a cleaner and healthier community.
