The increasing prevalence of cancer among young people is being attributed to incorrect lifestyles, obesity, and environmental pollution. The number of cancer patients among the youth is increasing due to changes in lifestyle and rising environmental pollution. The issue of mouth, throat, lung, and breast cancer is on the rise among the youth in the state.
Jaipur. Due to incorrect lifestyles, obesity, and pollution, the number of cancer patients in the country is rapidly increasing. Youth are not immune to this disease either. Cases of cancer among youths aged 20 to 35 are rapidly increasing in the state and across the country. Dr. Deepak Gupta, a medical oncologist at Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Center, mentioned that the primary reasons for cancer among youths are incorrect lifestyles along with genetic factors.
Habits such as lack of exercise, excessive consumption of junk food, smoking, and alcohol consumption are leading to a higher incidence of cancer cases among youths. Cancers of the mouth and throat, lungs, large intestines, prostate in males, and breast cancer in females are increasing among youths. Usually, these types of cancer were seen in people aged 40 or older, but in recent years, cases of these cancers among youths aged 20 to 35 are emerging.
The likelihood of having 15.7 million cancer patients:
According to the National Cancer Registry Program report released by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-National Center for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR), there has been an increase in cancer figures nationwide. The report states that there were 13.9 million cases of cancer in 2020. Consequently, the likelihood of reaching 15.7 million by 2025 is high. Tobacco, bidi, cigarettes, and gutkha are major causes of various types of cancer, including mouth, lungs, and digestive systems.

Surgical oncologist Dr. Prashant Sharma mentioned that symptoms such as non-healing sores in the mouth or throat, difficulty in swallowing, changes in voice, lumps in any part of the body, breast lumps or changes in size, persistent cough or coughing blood for a long time, blood in stools or urine, abnormal bleeding apart from menstruation or post-menopausal bleeding, changes in bowel habits – all these symptoms are included in the early signs of cancer. It is essential to identify the causes of these symptoms by consulting a doctor on time.
