An Afghan national, resettled in the United States through a federal program, has been arrested and charged with making a terroristic threat against a building in Fort Worth, Texas. The arrest of Mohammad Dawood Alokozay has ignited a sharp political response and raised questions about national security protocols.
Mohammad Dawood Alokozay entered the United States as part of Operation Allies Welcome, a program initiated by the Biden administration to resettle Afghans following the U.S. military withdrawal. He was admitted as a legal permanent resident on September 7, 2022. His arrest was carried out by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force after he allegedly posted a video on TikTok. In the video, he indicated he was building a bomb and specified Fort Worth as his target.

Alokozay currently faces state-level charges for making a terroristic threat. Following his arrest, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged a detainer against him. A detainer is a request for local law enforcement to hold an individual for a period of time so that federal authorities can take over custody for potential immigration violations. He is currently being held at the Tarrant County Corrections Center, though his inmate listing has sparked confusion by incorrectly recording his race as "White" despite authorities confirming his Afghan nationality.
The case has quickly become a focal point in the national political debate on immigration and security. The arrest occurred just a day after another Afghan national, who also entered the U.S. under the same resettlement program, shot two National Guard members in Washington D.C., one of whom tragically died. In response, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated, “The magnitude of the national security crisis Joe Biden unleashed on our country... cannot be overstated,” adding that President Trump has directed his team to continue "rooting out this evil within our borders."

The back-to-back incidents involving individuals who arrived through a single humanitarian program have intensified scrutiny on U.S. vetting processes. While Alokozay faces charges related to a bomb threat, the D.C. shooting suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, was reportedly a former CIA assistant. Because of these developments, the administration has decided to stop all asylum rulings for now as it rechecks and tightens security.
