If Kamala Harris wins the upcoming US election, one change is guaranteed: the White House will have a president who enjoys a beer. Unlike teetotalers Donald Trump and Joe Biden, Harris shared her love for the occasional brew during her recent appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

A Toast to Miller High Life

Prompted by Colbert, Harris cracked open a can of Miller High Life, a 4.6 percent beer known for its “easy-drinking flavor” that makers tout as the epitome of American lagers. Colbert humorously noted, “Elections, I think, are won on vibes because one of the old saws is they just want somebody they can have a beer with.” He then asked her, “So, would you like to have a beer with me so I can tell people what that’s like?”

The showrunners had ensured that the right drink was served, as Colbert remarked, “We can’t just be giving a drink to the vice president of the United States.”

As she opened the can, Harris reminisced, “OK, the last time I had beer was at a baseball game with Doug,” referring to her husband, Doug Emhoff. She added with a smile, “Cheers.”

Harris’s Thoughts on the Election and Trump

Colbert also referenced the beer’s origin, saying, “It’s cold. From the beautiful city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin,” a key swing state in the 2024 presidential election. Harris responded, quoting the drink’s marketing slogan, “The champagne of beers.”

This appearance was part of a broader media blitz that included interviews on “The View” and a lengthy discussion with Howard Stern on SiriusXM. Like those outlets, Colbert’s show provided a friendly atmosphere devoid of tough questions.

When Colbert questioned her about Trump’s refusal to accept his loss in the 2020 election, Harris seized the opportunity to take a jab at her opponent. “You know, when you lost millions of jobs, you lost manufacturing, you lost automotive plants, you lost the election, what does that make you? A loser,” she said, laughing, “This is what happens when I drink beer.”
