US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will sue 'The New York Times' for $15 billion in defamation and libel after recent stories there about his supposed connections to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

It is days after Trump threatened a lawsuit for a newspaper story on a sexually explicit note and drawing connected to Epstein.

"Today I have the Great Privilege of filing a $15 Billion Defamation and Libel Suit against The New York Times, a subhuman, disgusting newspaper in the history of our Nation, becoming a virtual 'mouthpiece' for the Radical Left Democrat Party," Trump posted on his social network, Truth Social.

He went on, "I consider it the greatest illegal Campaign donation, EVER. Their Support of Kamala Harris was placed dead center on the front page of The New York Times, something heretofore UNHEARD OF! The 'Times' has been taking part in a decades-long practice of lying about your Favorite President (ME!), my family, business, the America First Movement, MAGA, and our Nation in general."

Trump blamed the newspaper for disseminating lies about him, his family, and Republican causes like the America First agenda and Make America Great Again. He further stated that the lawsuit would be launched in Florida but provided no additional information.

Reuters reports that The New York Times has not yet made a statement regarding Trump's announcement.
