Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect of murdering conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, allegedly confessed to the murder on Discord before he turned himself in. As cited by The Washington Post, Robinson messaged a small private community with the following message:
“Hey guys, I have bad news for you all. It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.” He turned himself in a few hours later.
31-year-old Charlie Kirk was a prominent supporter of US President Donald Trump and co-founder of Turning Point USA. He was shot down while attending an event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, approximately 40 miles south of Salt Lake City.

The shooting occurred on September 10. The investigators report that Robinson employed the use of a rifle and shot Kirk once.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel announced that Robinson had hinted at his plans prior to the attack. “He had a chance to kill Charlie Kirk,” Patel said on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, continuing that Robinson had even left a written note detailing his plan.
Even though the note was later incinerated, investigators were able to find forensic evidence documenting that the note did indeed exist and corroborated its contents through interviews with witnesses.
Authorities further indicated that Robinson revealed his intent to another individual prior to the shooting. Discord, the online community messenger platform through which Robinson posted his confession, is working closely with the authorities to support the investigation, The Washington Post wrote.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Robinson has not been cooperating with authorities since his arrest. “He is not cooperating, but all the people around him were cooperating, and I think that’s very important,” Cox said on ABC’s This Week. The governor went on to say the motive for the attack is still unknown, although evidence suggests Robinson adopted a ‘leftist ideology’.

Robinson will be formally charged on Tuesday and will appear in court for the first time on the same day. Investigators are still trying to reconstitute the actions and motives of the suspect prior to the shooting, while the conservative community weeps over Kirk, whose leadership and influence had established him as a central political figure in the United States.
