Who was Mohammed Nizamuddin? Indian Techie Shot Dead in US, LinkedIn Post Reveals Racial Harassment Claims

Telangana techie Mohammed Nizamuddin, working in the US, was shot dead by California police. He had earlier spoken about racial harassment at work.

A young software engineer from Telangana, Mohammed Nizamuddin, lost his life in the United States earlier this month. Police in Santa Clara, California, shot him after an altercation with his roommate turned violent.

His family in India is demanding answers, while his past statements on racial discrimination have now drawn fresh attention.

Who was Mohammed Nizamuddin? Indian Techie Shot by US Police

Mohammed Nizamuddin was 30 years old. He belonged to the Mahabubnagar district in Telangana. In 2016, he moved to the United States to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science from a Florida college. After completing his MS, he joined a tech company.

Later, he moved to Santa Clara, California, after getting promoted. According to his LinkedIn profile, he worked with Google through the IT consulting firm EPAM Systems. However, he recently lost his job, something he openly discussed.

His family describes him as a quiet and religious man. However, he was not afraid to speak out against injustice. He even shared his struggles online.

Mohammed Nizamuddin: Last LinkedIn Post Before Death

Just days before his death, Nizamuddin wrote a strong LinkedIn post. In it, he said he was "a victim of racial hatred, racial discrimination, racial harassment, torture, wage-fraud, wrongful termination and obstruction of Justice."

He wrote:
"Today I decided to raise my voice against all odds. Enough is enough, white supremacy / racist white American mentality has to end. Oppression of corporate tyrants must end, and everyone involved in it must be punished severely."

He alleged his company committed salary fraud and terminated him wrongfully. He also claimed that law enforcement officials continued to harass and intimidate him.

What Happened on September 3 to Indian Techie in US?

According to the Santa Clara Police Department (SCPD), officers responded to a 911 call around 6:08 am. The caller said a stabbing had taken place inside a residence.

When officers arrived, they found two roommates in a violent fight. Police Chief Cory Morgan said officers saw one man pinning down the other. The man had multiple stab wounds.

The police statement read: "SCPD officers arrived, encountered the suspect, and were involved in an Officer-Involved Shooting. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for their injuries."

Police also recovered two knives from the scene. Morgan said the officer’s action "likely saved at least one life."

Indian Techie's Family Take On The Matter

Nizamuddin’s father, Mohammed Hasnuddin, said he got to know about his son’s death through one of his friends in the US. He claimed that the fight started over a minor matter with his roommate.

"I came to know he (Nizamuddin) was shot dead by Santa Clara Police, and his body is in some hospital in Santa Clara, California. I do not know the actual reasons why police shot him dead," Hasnuddin wrote in a letter to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The family has requested the Indian government’s help in bringing his body back to Mahabubnagar.
