The unexpected warmth between the two politicians caused immediate speculation on cable news, most especially about how Vice President JD Vance might feel about the new friendly relationship.
The insinuation that the Vice President is “jealous” could be rooted in the fact that Vance, a close political ally, might perceive himself overshadowed or replaced. Even Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade joked that the President might want to use Mamdani as a “running mate.”

Both sides described the meeting as very constructive, and it discussed key issues: housing, inflation, and the cost of living, among others, all central to Mamdani’s campaign messages. Following the discussions, President Trump had expressed surprise at how well the conversation went and described the meeting as “great.”
Speaking to reporters standing next to Mamdani, Trump stated, “We’re going to be helping him, to make everybody’s dream come true, having a strong and very safe New York.” Later, the President underscored their common ground: “We agree on a lot more than I would have thought,” he said. “We have one thing in common: We want this city of ours that we love to do very well.” Their meeting has shown even the strongest political rivals can find common ground where focusing on what matters to the people is concerned.
