In an interview following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump sat down for an exclusive interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity. In the interview, he rated the meeting a 10 and called Russia the number two nation in the world after America. He also walked back his previous claims of arranging a ceasefire between the warring nations in 24 hours.

Trump Calls Russia The Second Best in the World

Donald Trump rated his meeting with the Russian President a 10, saying that it’s good when two “big powers get along.” He also called Russia the number two nation in the world, contradicting his statements in the lead-up to this meeting, claiming he would not be pleased if a ceasefire agreement was not reached.

“So I think the meeting was a 10 in the sense that we got along great. And it’s good when, you know, two big powers get along, especially when they’re nuclear powers. You know, we’re number one, they’re number two in the world. And it’s a big deal. That’s a big deal,” Trump said to Hannity.

Donald Trump Walks Back Previous Ceasefire Claims

Reflecting on his past statements on the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire, the US President admitted that his assumptions were wrong. He had previously claimed that it would take him 24 hours to end the deadly war in Ukraine. He also said that this is one of the hardest ceasefires to negotiate.

“I thought this would be the easiest of them all, and it was the most difficult,” Trump said.

Trump Puts a Pause on Additional Sanctions on Russia

In the lead-up to this summit, Trump had threatened “severe consequences” for Russia if a peace agreement was not reached in their Friday meeting. However, the US President has now decided not to act on his claim despite not reaching a peace agreement. He said that the meeting between the two had gone “very well”, which is why he has decided to put a pause on the sanctions.

“Because of what happened today, I think I don’t have to think about that now..I may have to think about it in two weeks or three weeks or something, but we don’t have to think about that right now”

Russia and Ukraine want Trump to be part of the Peace Negotiations

Trump has promised a second meeting between the warring nations to be arranged soon, with the responsibility of reaching an agreement now put on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He also said that the two nations are requesting that he be present during their peace negotiations. The details of the meetings are currently undecided; however, it could take place on Putin’s turf after the Russian President suggested Moscow as the location for a second meeting in their joint press conference on Friday.
