As US President Donald Trump boldly declared at the UN General Assembly in New York, it is the greatest con job ever with respect to climate change, at a time fraught with uncertainties when countries like of Hyber Ambition Coalition watched and yielded an immediate backlash from the public opinion.
The High Ambition Coalition called countries to rule that humanity is on the brink of an irreversible fall into environmental collapse if the global community fails to take significant actions.
What is the Global Climate Coalitions?
As the Cancun climate talks concluded nearly a decade later that the HAC had a fairly stiff reminder the time to lock in 1.5°C is running out. In a joint statement issued by ministers of 14 member states including Germany, the UK and the European Commission, it was asserted “To achieve net-zero by 2050, greenhouse gas emissions have to peak immediately, then decline steeply.”
Their message was clear science shows we are approaching ecological tipping points and delay means disaster particularly for nations already experiencing disproportionate climate impacts.

How 1.5°C is Not a Goal or it is a Lifeline?
Reinforcing this urgency were calls from two of the most vulnerable coalitions the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group with over 80 nations and more than a billion people and their leaders claimed that for them. The 1.5°C threshold is non-negotiable to go above with existential loss from submerged coastlines to uninhabitable communities.
They have challenged the wealthier nations to raise their game by submitting a new climate pledge aligned with science at next year’s COP30 summit taking place in Belem, Brazil.

What is the Global Response to Trump’s Climate Rhetoric?
This came as Trump canceled any presentation in his UNGA address to the scientific consensus restricting himself to international institutions abuses, green policy bashing and even reaffirmation on fossil fuel support has sparked controversy at what is and without a doubt an environment sweep.
What is COP30 at Stake?
COP30 is not about targets in policy it is about accountability, equity and survival. Plans for climate known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), must be recalibrated accordingly to fall into 1.5°C validated indictments. Otherwise, would be a betraying call against vulnerable people and would sweep all efforts made under the Paris Agreement into the dustbin.
