Times Square Shooting: Multiple Injured, Suspect Arrested

Several people were injured in a Friday night Times Square shooting, and a suspect was arrested. Despite its gun-free status since 2022, the popular NYC tourist area continues to face violent incidents, including past shootings targeting civilians and police.

Times Square, one of the New York busiest tourist spots faced gun violence on Friday night, reportedly.

Initially it was noted that at least three people were injured, however, some witnesses claimed that multiple people were hurt during the incident.

Witnesses and reports

Many social media posts described bullet holes in car windows, as well as bodies lying on the ground. 

“I was literally 2 cars in front of the car that got shot up,” the witness said while reporting the incident.

A New York crime reporter shared a video showcasing people exiting a vehicle as police assisted them. When he tried to closely film the victims, the officers asked him to clear the area and move away.

Once suspect has been arrested and is in police custody.

The nearest police station Midtown North Prescient is just 0.7 miles away from the time Square, where the gun violence occurred.

Context and recent incidents

This incident follows shortly after a deadly attack in Manhattan in July, when last Vegas, president, Shane Tamra entered a building and open fire, killing at least four people. 

Times Square has been labelled as a gun free zone under the New York State Law since 2022. The law was imposed by US Supreme Court and expanded gun rights in June that year. 

However, the area still faced gun violence over the years. In 2024, a tourist, a police officer shot during a robbery in Times Square, as per the New York Post.
