At least three people were killed and several others were injured after a gunman opened fire at a row of restaurants in Southport, North Carolina. The attack began around 9:30 PM on Saturday (local time) near the Southport shore, which is about 30 miles (48 km) south of Wilmington.
Police identified the shooter as 40-year-old Nigel Max Edge. He arrived by boat, fired shots at the eateries, and fled the scene.
Shooter Arrested After Chase
The US Coast Guard spotted the suspect 30 minutes later at a public ramp in Oak Island. Officials said Edge was dragging his boat off the ramp when he was detained. He was then handed over to Southport police.

Oak Island authorities confirmed the detention. They said, “The US Coast Guard crew detained a person matching the description of the shooter after spotting them loading a boat at a public ramp in the town.”

According to NBC News, Edge has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder. Court records confirm that he faces trial for the deadly attack. Jail records show that he remains in custody with no bail bond set.
