Sergio Gor has been officially announced the new United States Ambassador to India, through an oath-taking ceremony at the White House. Gor was administered the oath of office in the presence of US President Donald Trump, who asserted full faith in his abilities for advancing the growing partnership between Washington and New Delhi. Gor promised to deepen the bilateral relationship and advance shared strategic and economic interests between the two democracies.

President Trump said he “trusts” Gor to further develop “one of our country’s most important international relationships, and that’s the strategic partnership with India.”

US Senate Approval and Appointment Process

His appointment as ambassador was confirmed by the US Senate in October 2025 after his nomination in August. Prior to his posting, he was serving as Director of Presidential Personnel at the White House.

President Trump had earlier promoted Gor not only as the next ambassador to India but also as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, reflecting the administration’s emphasis on deepening ties in the Indo-Pacific region.

Sergio Gor Commitment to Strengthening US-India Ties

During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last September, Gor stressed that India is central to the future of Asia and beyond.

He called India “a strategic partner whose trajectory will shape the region and beyond,” while he reiterated his commitment to advancing “America’s interest in this important partnership.”

After being sworn in, Gor said, “It has been an honor to serve you. I’ve been at your side for many years. I will continue to be there. It’s just an incredible honor, and I look forward to enhancing the relationship between our two nations.”

Trump: Strong US-India Ties in Economics and Security

At the ceremony, President Trump said that the US and India were close to a major trade deal, with the goal of increasing economic cooperation and energy exports.

“We’re getting a fair deal, just a fair trade deal,” Trump said to reporters in the Oval Office. “We’re making a deal with India, much different deal than we had in the past.”

He further praised India as “home to one of the world’s oldest civilizations, the largest country in the world,” with a population of “over 1.5 billion people.”

Trump highlighted the friendly relations between both countries and said, “We have a fantastic relationship with Prime Minister Modi, and Sergio has only enhanced that because he’s become already friendly with the Prime Minister.”

Who is Sergio Gor?

President Trump referred to Gor as “a great friend” and “one of the most influential figures” in his administration.

Prior to his ambassadorial appointment, Gor served as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, a senior position responsible for overseeing top-level appointments throughout the administration. Trump heaped praise on Gor, who he said played a leading role in “historic presidential campaigns,” helped publish Trump’s “best-selling books” and led a “major pro-Trump super PAC.”

During the start of his political career, Gor served as a spokesperson for various Republican lawmakers, including Michele Bachmann, Steve King, and Randy Forbes. In 2013, he became Communications Director for Senator Rand Paul’s PAC, RANDPAC, where he continued to work alongside the Kentucky senator before joining Trump’s administration.

A New Chapter in US-India Diplomacy The appointment of Sergio Gor has marked a new chapter in US-India diplomatic relations as Washington seeks to increase cooperation in trade, defense, and regional security. His proximity to President Trump and experience in political strategy are expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the strategic partnership between the two nations.
