Putin, Trump Set for High-Stakes Joint Press Conference After Alaska Summit

US President Trump and Russian President Putin will meet in Alaska Friday for talks on ending the Ukraine war. Concerns grow over Trump’s 'land-swapping' comments and Putin’s condition for Ukraine to withdraw from four contested regions.

A meeting is sit to be held between US president Donald Trump and Russian president Vladimir Putin. The two leaders will hold a joint press conference after their meeting in Alaska. The meeting is scheduled for Friday and will focus on discussions with an aim to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. 

The summit in Alaska was held after US envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow, Russia to broker the talks. This will be the first face-to-face meeting of the two presidents since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

Since the announcement of Russia-US summit last week, Trump has commented several times on the possible ‘land-swapping’ between Kyiv and Moscow. These remarks have spread widespread tension in Ukraine and other nations, with fear that Putin could agree to Trump’s long-standing demand to get control over major Ukrainian areas.

BBC reported, Putin has stated that Russia would consider ceasefire if Ukraine withdrew from four regions namely, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia that are currently under partial Russian control.
