The concept of afterlife and near-death experiences have captured the attention of doctors and scientists for a long period of time. In a case, a Canadian nurse, Julia Evans had a near death experience in 2018.

Julia recently shared her deep personal account of ‘afterlife’ on a Jeff Mara’s podcast. She had an allergic reaction to the scent of lily flowers, leading to a cardiac arrest. Now, she offered a window to what she describes as ‘afterlife’ and how it changed her perspective on life.

Allergic Reaction Turns Fatal

Julia had a known allergy to ‘lily flowers’ and was affected by their scent sending her into a cardiac arrest. Working as a nurse, when she arrived at the hospital she noticed a bouquet of lilies at the nursing station. Soon after, she realized that she has a sore throat.

She thought the reaction would be mild but it triggered a severe anaphylactic shock. After that, her colleagues didn’t waste time. One of them administered medication while another called her husband. Another nurse stayed with her as she lost her breathing. The doctor who injected her with epinephrine made an error. the syringe had ten time more dosage than required and it made things worse. Julia’s heart raced so fast that she felt it might actually explode that day.

A Glimpse Into the ‘Afterlife’

While doctors fought to revive her, Julia’s awareness drifted into darkness. In that black void, she heard the comforting voice of her late mother, who had passed away in 1983 from a brain aneurysm. “It’s OK, honey. Mommy’s here,” her mother told her.

Julia also relived the painful losses of her best friend, her stepmother’s drowning, and her mother’s sudden death. Moments later, she found herself in a radiant field filled with brilliant light, colours, and what she describes as ‘only love’, surrounded by all the loved ones she had lost.

Return and Lasting Impact

With a sudden jolt, the doctors were able to pull her back into her lifeless body. But, the experience left a deep emotional effect on her for more than a year.

She later describer her journey in her book called ‘the Lily Nurse’. It sheds light on life, death and everything in between.
