The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office has joined state police in the investigation. Officers are examining the scene and speaking to witnesses. Authorities have asked the public to stay away from the Walmart area to allow emergency crews and investigators to work safely and quickly.
A Walmart spokesperson said the company is deeply concerned and is fully cooperating with police. “We’re working closely with law enforcement and referring all questions to them,” the spokesperson said. The store is currently closed, and it is unclear when it will reopen.
Police have not yet released the suspect’s name or motive. However, officers confirmed the individual was caught at the scene shortly after the stabbings. It is also not yet known if the attacker had any relationship with the victims.
